How This Place Works
An orientation for reading Scorpio Veil
Most of the pieces here have a song attached to them.
Not because you’re supposed to listen.
Not because it’s required.
Not because this is about music.
It’s because that’s what I was listening to when I wrote the piece.
Each one came out of a specific internal tempo.
A mood. A pressure. A state I was already inside.
The song is a trace of that state.
If you want to feel what I was feeling while writing, you can play it while you read.
If you don’t, nothing breaks. The writing stands on its own.
Sometimes people click the song.
Most don’t.
Both are fine.
The song is there whether it’s played or not.
It gives the piece a body. A face. A way to recognize it later.
This site works best on a computer or laptop.
Not because it’s precious.
Because it’s an archive, not a feed.
On a larger screen, you can browse instead of scroll.
You can see pieces next to each other.
You can feel the rhythm between them.
If you’re already logged into Spotify, the links open easily.
If you’re not, nothing is lost.
Think of the song the way you’d think of liner notes.
Or a photograph tucked into a book.
Or the feeling that lingers after something ends well, but still ends.
This isn’t meant to be consumed quickly.
It’s meant to be returned to.
If you read it by email, that’s enough.
If you come here, it’s because you want to stay a little longer.
There’s no right order.
There’s no need to catch up all at once.
Some things only make sense when you let them stack.
